Berlin, Oktober 31st, 2008 Computers and databases are widely used means in pharmaceutical research to support the development of new drugs. Based on the interdisciplinary cooperation of chemistry and computer sciences which is an essential requirement for complex chemistry software a unique new discipline has evolved during the last years called chemoinformatics. Each year the division "Chemie-Information-Computer (CIC)" of the German chemistry society "Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker" (GDCh) honors two high level scientific works with the FIZ CHEMIE Berlin award, a master as well as a PhD thesis.
