Lights in the darkness
For some organisms, it is not enough just to shine in the light of the sun: they generate their light themselves.
Light and color are so normal for us that we hardly think about them, but who hasn’t admired the natural spectacle of a rainbow and been amazed at the wonderful blaze of color? Only through light do the rainbow and every other object around us gain their color, because colors are always dependent on rays of light. Only those who know about the nature of light will understand this colorful phenomenon. And colors also let us orientate ourselves in life. In this way, people started to get to the bottom of the secrets of natural colors 300 years ago.
In this issue of the +report+, we’ll show you the world of colors today, and consider the various aspects of why and how we see color. Editorial colleagues have put together a broad spectrum for you: What is color and what are colorants? Why and when do colors shine? And what wonders of color can be observed in nature? How are colors and temperature connected, and what influence can colors have on the shaping of our consciousness? The subject of color offers up a fantastic range of interesting questions.
