Information competence?
What’s that?
Why the time has come to talk about the evaluation of information.
Highlights of digital information storage
Today it’s taken for granted that a CD collection can be loaded on a mobile phone, a high-resolution film on a DVD and that nearly every household has a desktop computer or laptop. But the digital storage of persistent information began in fact in the 18th century.
Information is incomprehensible. We have long puzzled over the term in our +report+ editorial office. How do you actually describe or define information? What makes a piece of information good or bad? Is information a parameter of our reality, like space, time and matter?
How do we define information, and where does the term come from? What is information technology? And what is information science? Are both equivalent to information literacy? What are the tasks today of specialized information?
How can search enquiries be improved through semantic technologies? How is our data transported from continent to continent? What are the bandwidths of deep-sea cables and communication satellites? Information has a vast number of facets and can be viewed from many different angles. It is even worth taking a look at the past and the „evolution“ of information and information processing. We have a great article on the highlights of information storage.
